Tips on managing Facebook Business Pages

Have you setup a Page on Facebook for your business, and find managing it a bit confusing? Here are some tips to help navigate your way through Facebook’s less-than-user-friendly menus!

1. How do I keep my personal profile separate from my Business page?
You need to have a Facebook profile before you can setup or manage a Business page. Login to Facebook with your profile, then to select the Business page, look under the top-right Blue Bar under “Account”, “Manage Pages” for the Pages you are authorized to manage. If you don’t see this option, you aren’t setup to Administer a Page yet!

Once you select the Page, remember that the Top Blue Navbar in Facebook is for your Personal Profile, and does not navigate “home” to the Business Page. If you use the top Blue Navbar, you will leave the Business Page and be returned to your personal profile.

Always look for your Business Profile photo on the left. When you see this, you are still on the Business Page. You can post to the wall, etc as the buiness (and your personal profile will not show).

2. How do I become an Administrator of a Facebook Business Page?
The Administrator will need to select the Business Page, and selelct “Edit Page on the left Nav. Select Administrators” from the left Nav. If you are already friends with the Administrator’s personal profile, they can simply begin typing to find your name and give you access. If you are not personal profile friends, then they can invite you using your facebook email. Be sure they type the address in correctly!

Be very careful giving access to Administrators on your Page. A gaping-hole in Facebook security allows any administrator to remove all other administrators (regardless of who setup the page originally!)

3. How do I setup a Business URL?
Once your page has 25 “Likes”, you are eligible to setup a custom URL for your Facebook Page. Having a custom URL makes finding and promoting your page much easier! Go to: http://www.facebook.com/username/ and select the username you’d like for your Page. www.facebook.com/341studios for example! You may change the name of your Facebook Page as often as you like, but once you select a URL, you can’t change that – so choose carefully!
