Co-Communications developed and implements an ongoing media relations program that garners attention for End Hunger Connecticut!’s advocacy efforts and work to increase federal nutrition program participation in Connecticut. Our team finds creative ways to demonstrate impact and engage constituents.
Since beginning work with End Hunger Connecticut! in 2012, Co-Communications has implemented a customized publicity strategy consisting of media advisories, targeted pitches and data-rich news releases. Co-Communications builds tailored media lists including local political/legislative, community news, education and health reporters in the print, broadcast and online arenas. Guest speakers at press conferences and events, such as Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, former Commissioner of Education Stefan Pryor and other community leaders have been leveraged as additional media hooks. When possible, Co-Communications secures program participants and their families to serve as spokespersons to demonstrate need and impact. We have even encouraged schools to have students create paper plates showing why the School Breakfast Program is important to them, a great visual for media.
Co-Communications has garnered extensive media coverage for its work with End Hunger Connecticut! The media coverage secured includes multiple packages with local FOX, NBC, CBS and ABC affiliates, interviews on local talk radio programs and feature stories in daily and weekly media, including Hartford Courant, Connecticut Mirror, Middletown Press, CT News Radio, and CT News Junkie, among others. More than 500 paper plates highlighting the importance of School Breakfast Programs in Connecticut were collected during the first year of our campaign alone. Co-Communications work on behalf of End Hunger Connecticut! was recognized with a Gold Mercury Award by the Public Relations Society of America in 2013, a Silver Mercury Award in 2014 and we are currently collaborating with the Connecticut nonprofit for a fourth year of community, advocacy and public relations support.
